Assignment #4

We’ve discussed ways in which women have been systematically and perpetually subordinated in society.  Discuss two ways each that women are politically, economically, and socially subordinated; give two specific examples from the readings of the situations you discuss; and give two ways in which advocates of women have addressed these issues.

For example, women are economically subordinated by the lack of economic development policies to address their issues.  Women in many developing countries are limited to borrowing money only if a male family member signs the loan.  Efforts have been made, with the establishment of microcredit agencies, to give women access to credit they wouldn’t otherwise qualify for through normal economic channels.

Finally, why it is important for men to support change in the issues you’ve mentioned.  Be sure your answers are of an international perspective and include some examples about situations in developing countries, not just from an American viewpoint from the developed world.
